Tribute from In-Laws

Family is not just about who shares our name, but who shares our journey. And in that journey, Mr. Benjamin Bortier Ninepence was a pillar of love and respect. From your very first day on Earth, you encountered our mother, Madam Emelia Naa Mukwe Princess Nii Tawiah aka Madam Princess and our father, Nii Otu Danfa Afotey-fio; from that moment, you became one of us. Mr. Benjamin Bortier Ninepence was the embodiment of a congenial man, humble, well-spoken, and always making those around him feel loved and appreciated. His congenial nature left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Uncle Ben, as our children fondly called you, was a man who commanded respect with his grace and kindness. He had a way of making everyone around him feel seen and valued. He went out of his way to make us feel better, always showing up with a smile, and his generosity was felt in everything he did. His presence was a constant reminder of how a life well-lived can leave a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.

I, Nii Odai Kwei III, want to personally thank you for the warmth and kindness you always showed me during my visits to the United States. From the moment you picked me up at JFK airport to the laughter we shared over dinners at Red Lobster, and how you always made sure I enjoyed every shopping trip—we made so many memories, all thanks to your thoughtful care. You were never just a brother-in-law; you were a true, loving, and devoted BIG BROTHER to me.

The emptiness left by your absence is deeply felt, and your spirit of kindness and selflessness will always live in my heart.

Please, take care of your nephew, Nii Odai Tawiah Afotey-Fio, aka Papa Nii, just as you took care of me. Rest in peace, dear brother, until we meet again. Your spirit has flown, but the echoes of your kindness and respect will never fade.

We, your in-laws, say goodbye with heavy hearts. Nii Mantse Kwei says KPO, KPO, KPO.
